BMW iNext reveals itself in better detail

Car spotters have once again taken photos of the pre-production BMW iNext. Despite the still-present camo, the electric SUV turned up closer than before and revealed a few interesting details.

First, there is no doubt anymore that its exterior design is markedly different from that of other BMWs, lacking the trademark sharp edges and concave sides. The tailgate looks rather narrow and the rear fenders rather wide. Overall, it seems like BMW wanted to highlight the innovative nature of the vehicle with these touches.

Then there is the giant “nostril grille” that debuted separately not long ago. Since the SUV is not powered by a conventional IC engine, the grille lacks cooling purposes and instead houses assorted sensors needed for the Level 3 self-driving system on board.

Speaking of the engine, the model is getting a fifth-gen electric powertrain with undisclosed characteristics. The only known spec so far is the driving range, which amounts to 600 km (404 miles).

The BMW iNext should debut in its final production form next year, followed by production start in Dingolfing, Germany, and the market launch shortly after the reveal.
