BMW has updates engine ranges in multiple car series, including the 545e xDrive Hybrid coming up this fall (see video) and many others.
The 1 Series now has two new specs called 116i and 120i. The former packs a turbocharged three-pot rated at 109 hp (81 kW) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque. It supports six-speed manual for transmission and makes it to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 10.6 seconds. You may opt for a seven-speed Steptronic DSG box instead. The 120i version benefits from turbo’d four cylinders, 178 hp (133 kW) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque. It comes with the DSG transmission by default and hits 100 km/h in 7 seconds flat.
The 2 Series Gran Coupe is now available in a diesel-chugging “216d” modification based on a 1.5-liter turbo three-pot. This one commands 116 hp (87 kW) and 270 Nm (201 lb-ft), allowing a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 10.3 seconds.
The 3 Series gains a new 3.0-liter TDI option with two-stage forced induction, enhanced common rail injection, new piezoelectric nozzles and a mild-hybrid add-on represented by a 48-volt, 11-hp engine starter. This brings the output of the 330d spec to 286 hp (213 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) total, a +21 hp / +70 Nm improvement over the old version. The electric add-on helps launch faster, reducting the standard sprint time from 5.5 s to 5.3 s.
Finally, the 840d xDrive also goes hybrid with its 3.0L TDI system. The new specs are 340 hp (254 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft), up twenty points on both horsepower and Newton-meter counters. The sprint time sheds one-tenth of a second and now amounts to 4.8 s.
