The German car concern BMW has revealed a long-term development plan according to which the company seeks to expand its electrified (i.e., hybrid and full electric) car series significantly.
If all goes well, a total of 25 different electrified car models will be issued by the German concern before 2025. We already know that one of these is going to be the recently announced sports car BMW i8. A hybrid vehicle and a full-electric Mini hatchback are also going to be released in 2018.
According to an official representative of the brand, electrified car production should rise to its highest by 2020 when a fifth-generation electric engine gets released. The first cars to get the new motor will be the BMW X3 crossover and an unannounced sedan with a provisional name of iNext.
Interestingly, a similar statement has recently been made by Rolls-Royce, a daughter company of BMW. Furthermore, unlike its German founder, Rolls-Royce doesn’t even consider hybrid units as it states its intentions to go full electric.
