Someone buys a pre-WWII BMW roadster for €410k

A bidder at Car&Classic paid €410,000 for a 1938 BMW 328 roadster this weekend – four times the price of a mint M3 Competition.

The BMW 328 was one of carmaker’s most award-winning vehicles of the ‘30s. It came powered by a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine that was only good for around 80 hp (60 kW). However, innovative engineering solutions and relatively low weight enabled it to score many victories in popular races, including endurance marathons.

The auction host never mentioned whether this specific car took part in any racing event. All we know is that its official, documented history goes only as far back as 1950. For the eight years prior to sale, it was undergoing restoration that saw its entire drivetrain, bodywork and interior overhauled.

Only 464 units of the BMW 328 were produced in total, out of which only 200 are believed to still hang around these days.
