Check out an ultra-rare BMW without kidneys on its face

The exotic BMW-Glas 3000 V8 emerged back in 1968 in a production run of fewer than 400 units, and this specific copy has just failed to sell at an auction.

The reason the car looks so offbeat is that BMW barely took part in its production: the original design belongs to Pietro Frua and goes by the name of Glas 1300GT. Hans Glas GmbH from Dingolfing, Germany, used to produce it in 1964 before BMW came and purchased the rights for the model. The Bavarian company then swapped the original engine of the sporty coupe with a V8 and slapped its own badge on the hood without modifying anything else, including even the front grille. In the end, 389 units of the BMW-Glas 3000 V8 had rolled off the assembly lines.

The example on sale had been swapped back to the original Glas engine with its three carburetors and overhead camshafts, mated to a four-speed manual transmission. It combines artificial black leather and beige velvet in the cabin and comes with a heater and a Becker radio.

The owner of the car received a highest bid of $63,000 USD for the car with around 83,000 km (51,500 miles) on the counter and declined it.
