BMW has revealed its electrification plans for the coming years: unlike Audi, the corporation intends to holds onto its internal combustion engines for a while longer.
Specifically, the Bavarian company expects to have only 50% of its total sales to fall on all-electric cars by the beginning of the next decade. Its current EV lineup isn’t that extensive, either: there’s the elderly BMW i3, the new i4 (see video), and the iX.
However, in two years’ time, the company plans to offer a purely electric model in every segment of the market, which sums up to 13 such models.
The year 2025 will mark a milestone: the production of IC engines will be halved and international EV sales will exceed 2 million units.
Hydrogen fuel cell cars are likewise not forgotten: a production car based on the i Hydrogen Next Concept is scheduled to arrive next year in a small pilot batch.
