BMW says there will be no ‘hot’ 4 Series Gran Coupe

As BMW continues testing the 4 Series Gran Coupe, it becomes more and more obvious that the new car has the same body as the i4 (see video). However, unlike the i4, it will not be getting an M version.

The above statement stems directly from M3/M4 Project Manager Robert Pilsl, who argues that BMW already has an M4 sedan and coupe on the lineup, with a wagon and a convertible joining their ranks soon. With as many choices as this, it makes little sense to develop a performance spec for the Gran Coupe as well.

The new 4 Series debuted last fall with an inline-six under the hood turbocharged to deliver between 480–510 PS (473–503 hp; 353–375 kW).

According to Pilsl, the Gran Coupe will not be electrified, either, despite the fact that the 3 Series has two PHEV versions – the 320e and the 330e.

When it debuts, the BMW i4 M Performance will pack an all-electric powertrain rated at 530 PS (523 hp / 390 kW).
