Americans vote for their dream cars, here are the results

Insurance website Compare has posted the results of a poll asking U.S. residents for their car preferences. Replies varied based on the social background of the people polled, but if we were to draw a picture of the dream car as envisioned by the average American, it would be a black BMW SUV.

BMW led the Favorite Brand section of the poll, leaving the best-selling Ford and Chevrolet behind and coming far ahead of its European rival, Audi. Tesla collected less than a half of the vote count that went to BMW. Crossovers and SUVs won in the Vehicle Type category with 30% of the votes.

A black BMW SUV was commonly named the dream car for families with children, while a navy blue Audi coupe came out on top in the ranking of vehicles for travel. Big city dwellers would rather go for a BMW sedan, while those in the province would sooner drive a red Chevrolet truck.

Asked about the defining qualities of the dream car, most mentioned steering ease, comfort, safety, attractive pricing and appearance. The most desired options included infotainment touchscreen, reversing camera, luxury trim, and assorted driving aids. However, while many said parking assist was high on their list of priorities, few cared to mention self-driving.

Predictably enough, older audiences said they would prefer an ICE car if its fuel consumption was adequate, while the majority of the younger people polled wouldn’t mind driving an EV at all.
