BMW has announced its partnership with AirConsole, a casual video game developer (watch the video to get an idea). Per Carscoops, owners of BMW cars will soon be able to play games on their infotainment system screens using the smartphone as a controller.
The German automaker believes that the innovation will be appreciated by people spending time waiting until their EV charges up or the like. This raises the question of whether any ICE cars will receive gaming support. The company itself doesn’t clarify it, only saying that the car will have to remain parked in order for the feature to be available.
Plugging your phone in as a controller will be as simple as scanning a QR code. The German company says the only information exchange will take place between the infotainment unit and the mobile device. The image will be displayed on the entire Digital Cockpit assembly including a 12.3-inch digital dash screen and a 14.9-inch display.
AirConsole games are expected to make their debut in BMW cars next year. The automaker promises to reveal more details later.
