A year and a half ago, someone tried to sell a homemade BMW E39 5-Series truck for 2.5 million Rubles (34,300 USD). The deal fell through, and the car has now reappeared in the listing with a much humbler price tag.
The tuner worked with a year 1999 model powered by a 3.0-liter turbo diesel with 184 PS (181 hp / 135 kW). He restored the car to top condition using OEM components, replacing chassis and suspension parts, as well as headlights. He also had the engine, the automatic gearbox and some other parts serviced.
The car is fully road-legal in Russia in its current state with around 50,000 km (31,000 miles) under its belt. Interestingly, the last time it went on sale it had only 5,000 km (3,100 miles) on the counter.
The new asking price is 1,600,000 RUB (around 22,000 USD), and the seller is willing to haggle, even though he admits spending over 2,000,000 RUB (27,500 USD) on the modifications. You could buy a reasonably well-kept E39 5-Series for a fraction of that amount in Russia.
