Next-gen BMW 5-Series nabbed testing

The latest bunch of spy photos showing the upcoming BMW 5-Series reveals a suspiciously sane-sized nostril grille and revised headlamps.

We fully expected the next 5-Series to be styled in the same vein as the recently debuted BMW X7 and 7-Series, but the vehicle spotted on the streets this weekend was rather conservative-looking in comparison.

With camo hiding the rest of the design traits, however, it might be a bit too early to judge. Like the flagship 7-Series, the sedan will go on sale with a variety of powertrain options including petrol, diesel, hybrid and fully-electric (named i5). Aside from trim bits and pieces, they will look largely identical.

Spies made it into the cabin of the new 5-Series as early as last year, spotting touch-based controls there and a duo of screens united under a single curved display. We will find out whether it was the final design or a temporary experiment when the car premieres in 2023.
