New BMW 5-Series sheds some of the camo

The latest batch of shots featuring the new BMW 5-Series provide the best look at the sporty sedan so far, well ahead of the production start in the summer 2023.

The prototype spotted wore less wrap than earlier examples (see video) and had what looked like production-ready headlights and exterior trim bits.

The tailpipes aren’t seen anywhere, but neither are ‘electric vehicle’ stickers, so we are going with the assumption that this 5-Series is gas-powered. Regardless of the power source, the entire lineup – ICE, hybrid and the all-electric i5 – will be based on the same technological base known as the CLAR. The only differences will be in the décor. Red brake calipers and a trunk lid spoiler suggest that this particular car has an M Sport package installed.

Unlike the 7-Series that debuted before, the 5-Series will make do without BMW’s latest controversial design changes like two-tier headlamps or giant ‘twin-nostril’ grille.
