Check out a BMW 5-Series restomod with a V8 under the hood

The second generation of the BMW 5-Series (E28) is still widely considered the most beautiful. It is also somewhat underpowered by modern standards, but there is always the option for tuning if you need some extra thrust.

The example shown here is a 535i model made in 1986. Its original engine was a 2.8-liter inline six-cylinder rated at 180 PS (177 hp / 132 kW). The owner had it replaced with a V8 transplanted from the much more modern E34 5-Series. He never specified the output, but we would be surprised if it were less than the OEM-rated 286 PS (282 hp / 210 kW).

As a restomod, the car ended with a handful of visual improvements as well: chromed side mirrors, new headlights and bumpers, rear window blonds and 17-inch BBS wheels. A spoiler was added at the rear and rather elegant, slightly flared arches appeared at the sides.

Contrary to all expectation, the interior was already exceptionally well preserved for a 39-year-old BMW, so the owner simply replaced the worn upholstery with peanut-butter-tinted leather.
