Camo-free spy shot of the new BMW 5-Series leaks online

BMW will not reveal the next 5-Series generation until May 24, but Autogaleria has already published its first spy shot without any camouflage on the body. The source of the image is uncredited, but you can tell it’s a 5-Series, even if it looks completely different.

The image depicts the rear end of the sedan along with its glass line, slanted roof and modest-sized spoiler. The door handles are new as well, and the taillights resemble those of the 7-Series while having their own, unique light patterns.

It is implied that BMW will be revealing the sedan alongside the wagon version in a variety of MHEV and PHEV flavors to choose from. For the first time on record, an all-electric version called the i5 will be released. Its base spec will drive the rear wheels with 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW), while the top M60 spec will utilize twin e-motors to drive all four wheels with roughly 612 PS (603 hp / 450 kW). The final numbers remain to be announced, though.

As well, BMW promises us breakthrough technologies in the chassis and driving aids departments. For instance, the interior camera will trace the direction the driver is looking in and change lanes automatically when the corresponding function is enabled.
