Figure, a company specializing in high-tech robot designs, has signed its first major agreement according to which it will be supplying humanoid robots for the BMW factory in South Carolina, USA, New Atlas reports.
Note that the news has nothing to do with the usual stationary robotic equipment used to perform routine tasks at industrial facilities. The company claims it has created actual human-like machines capable of such human things as brewing coffee, for example – watch the video to get an idea.
Right now, Figure and BMW are discussing the potential applications for these robots. Once these have been decided, the manufacturer will begin training them to perform the specific action sets necessary for the work. Once fully trained, the AI will memorize the algorithms and be able to reproduce them independently.
The startup company first made news headlines less than a year ago. The cooperation with BMW is its first major project in the industry. Figure admits that it chose the German automaker thanks to its extensive experience in streamlining complex industrial processes. Although it has just been revealed now, the cooperation between the two companies has been nine months in the making now. If it proves successful, the humanoid robots will see more extensive use throughout the factory in the coming years.
