BMW 6 hatchback gets a new diesel engine

BMW has announced a new diesel engine for the 6 Series hatchback models coming to the market in Europe in a couple months.

The new BMW 6 620d hatchback will be available with a two-liter turbocharged diesel engine good for 190 hp (142 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb·ft) of torque. Reportedly, the vehicle will accelerate 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in eight seconds and achieve maximum torque at 2500 RPM.

BMW chose an eight-speed automatic transmission for this new model. In the Urban/Suburban drive mode, the car shouldn’t spend more than 5 liters of gasoline per 100 km traveled. That would mean 55 MPG in Great Britain or 47 MPG in the USA.

It hasn’t been made official yet, but the newcomer may ship with the same range of options as its predecessor model, including active rear-wheel steering, air bellows suspension and an anti-roll bar.
