New looks, new engines: BMW unveils the next 7 Series

German automotive giant BMW has premiered the next generation of its 7 Series flagship sedan. Optimized engines, X7-like looks and more features in base are all on offer. Sales begin in April this year.

Compared to the previous generation, the new 7 Series sports a radiator grille that’s about 40% larger, adaptive LED-based headlights, a slightly retouched hood and wheel arch design, and a solid LED stripe connecting the brake lights in the back.

Interior novelty comes in the form of a next-gen digital dash you’ve likely already seen on the X5 SUV and the 8 Series coupe/convertible.

The base trim now ships with a wireless charging device and launch control.

The 4.4-liter turbo V8 engine has been thoroughly reworked to deliver 530 horsepower (395 kilowatts) instead of the original 450 hp (336 kW) and 750 Nm (553 pound-feet) of torque instead of the old 650 Nm (480 lbft). Equipped with this engine, the car now makes 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 3.9 seconds.

The unaltered gasoline twelve-cylinder engine rated at 609 hp (454 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lbft) of torque remains the hi-end option, though. Regardless of your pick, you will take advantage of an optimized eight-speed automatic transmission.

Last but hardly least, the 7 Series now offers a hybrid variant based on an inline-6 engine assisted by an electric motor for 394 hp (294 kW) total output.
