BMW will expand its hybrid/electric vehicle lineup to include the next-gen 7 Series, which will ditch its V12 mill in favor of a hybrid powertrain.
A new model called M750Le will come to replace the currently available M760Li (see the photos and the video). It will offer a combination of a twin-turbo V6 engine rated close to 400 hp (300 kW) and a single electric motor. The resulting output will amount to 550 hp (410 kW) and 800 Nm (590 lb-ft) of torque.
No specific driving range figures are being discussed at the moment, but the Bavarian car manufactuerer assures us it is going to be ‘impressive’. The company says the superb fuel efficiency will more than compensate for the performance drop.
Aside from this, BMW intends to equip all currently non-hybrid 7 Series with electric starter-generators. Finally, it considers introducing a flagship EV called the i7, which might arrive offering up to 700 kilometers (435 miles) of eco-friendly driving from a single charge.
The new BMW 7 Series is expected in 2021.
