Speaking at the annual BMW press conference, CEO Oliver Zipse confirmed that the next generation of the 7 Series would be available with hybrid and purely electric powertrains.
He explained that there would be four main variants to choose from: electric, PHEV, diesel, and gasoline. All four will come based on the same chassis, but the electric one will boast the highest performance along with the biggest price tag. Preliminary estimations of the battery capacity put it between 80 and 120 kilowatt-hours; the latter option might translate into 700 kilometers (435 miles) of useful driving range.
With its 6.6-liter, twin-turbo V12 producing 600 hp (447 kW) and 850 Nm (627 lb-ft) of torque, the latest M760i sits at the top of the BMW 7 lineup right now. It only needs 3.6 seconds to get from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph).
