New BMW 7 Series trades V12 for superior electric power

We learned long ago that the range-topping BMW 7 Series would become an EV in its next generation; today, the company has revealed the rest of the lineup.

The old M760Li with its 6.6-liter V12 engine rated at 609 PS (600 hp, or 447 kW) will become history, and a new model called i7 M60 or Mi7 will assume its place. It will boast dual electric motors and at least 650 PS (641 hp, or 478 kW). Its 100-kWh battery will guarantee around 640 kilometers (400 miles) of range.

The i740 (RWD) and the i750 (AWD) will also switch to pure electricity, the former landing with one electric motor and the latter with two. Their power is estimated in the range between 350 and 450 hp (261 – 336 kW).

The M750e will remain a plug-in hybrid vehicle. It will get an inline-six engine and an electric motor or two, ending with around 600 hp (447 kW). The 745e PHEV shown in the video here will also make it into the next generation.

The gas-powered 740i and the diesel-chugging 735d will be the only two models that will get to keep their inline-six EC engines free of electric add-ons.
