BMW continues developing its flagship 7 Series sedan with the internal designation of G70. The launch is expected next year.
The new 7 Series will be the first BMW production car to make use of an all-new platform that supports all kinds of powertrains ranging from ICE to hybrid and full-electric. Autopilot will also be supported. The current-gen G11 7 Series emerged six years ago based on a then-new CLAR chassis (stands for Cluster Architecture).
In all likelihood, all petrol and diesel engines will receive mild-hybrid add-ons. The pure EV version may be called i7. Most models will make do with turbocharged six-cylinders, the top spec will get a V8, and the V12 will be permanently dropped from the lineup.
Once the ICE-based BMW 7 Series hits the showroom floors, it will compete against the new Mercedes-Benz S-Class, while the i7 will tackle the EQS.
