Auto China 2022 canceled over Covid concerns, new date pending

The Beijing International Auto Show, better known as Auto China, will not be opening in three weeks’ time as planned, its organizing party quoting coronavirus concerns.

Earlier on, state and municipal authorities of China called upon large event organizers to cancel them because of a new outbreak of Covid-19 cases nationwide. The holder of this year’s Auto China says the event is now officially shelved until better times, with a new date due to be announced later. Rumors say it could be postponed to this summer or autumn, but this is not official yet.

The show had been meant to host many interesting premieres, including the new BMW 7-Series along with its electric cousin, as well as the long-awaited Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. These premieres will now be either postponed or switched to a different presentation format (e.g., online).

The photos and the video here are all from earlier Beijing motor shows, when Covid was still not a thing.
