BMW 7-Series & i7 go into production

The BMW factory in Dingolfing, Germany has begun making the new 7-Series and the all-electric i7.

Thanks to an investment of €300 million, all cars are now seamlessly manufactured on the same assembly line, regardless of whether they run on petrol, diesel or electric power. Shipments will begin in November, with the hybrids slated to arrive next year.

BMW intends to start the production with maxed-out demo cars and only proceed to assembling lower trims later on. The 7-Series Configurator complete with a price calculator has been available online in many countries since April, and the automaker says it received plenty of advance orders.

The same industrial complex makes the nw 4, 5, 6 and 8 Series, as well as the iX. The annual production volume borders on 250,000 units.
