A 59-year-old BMW 700 CS makes a fine electromod

Back in the 1950-60s, the Bavarian automaker we know today as BMW was in dire straits, desperately needing a bestseller to stay afloat. Luckily, it managed to produce the coupe called 700 that sold nearly 200,000 units worldwide and brought BMW back in business. Fast-forward to present day, and UK-based firm eDub Services built an electric restomod to commemorate that iconic car.

Despite its massive success at the time, only few units of the BMW 700 have survived to this day. The example the tuner worked with was a sported-up 700 S model released in 1964. It wound up with a completely restored body and an electric drivetrain.

The company never specified the output, but mentioned that it used a motor called NetGain HyPer9. A quick search suggests it pumps out 122 PS (120 hp / 90 kW) in its standard specification.

Curiously enough, the tuner hooked the motor up to the car’s four-speed manual transmission. This means you can row your own gears, but the top speed will not exceed a modest 113 km/h (70 mph) over safety concerns.

The interior has been spruced up a bit as well with new mats, headliner and remaining charge indicator rounding to the nearest 10%.
