BMW unveils new special purpose vehicles at RETTMobil 2018

BMW has premiered five special vehicles at RETTMobil 2018 – a police car and a motor bike, two ambulances and a fire marshal’s SUV.

The latter represents a heavily modified BMW X3 crossover vehicle equipped with adaptive headlamps, rotating lights mounted on the roof, the hood and the trunk lid, a fire extinguisher with 2 kg (4.5 lb) of extinguishing agent, a charger plug, a 230V socket and an antenna-based receiver of TETRA / GPS signals. The SUV is driven by a 2.0-liter diesel engine capable of 190 hp (142 kW) and features a heads-up display, navigation software, and a three-zone climate control unit.

One of the ambulance vehicles uses the 2-Series Gran Tourer chassis, while the other is based on the abovementioned X3 architecture. Both come equipped with digital radio transceivers and warning lights. The 2-Series Gran Tourer version also features a car battery charger, a metal grid that divides the interior area in half, and an extensible ramp for added convenience getting patients in and out of the vehicle.

The police car has the MINI chassis at its base and packs a potent 230-hp (171.5 kW) powertrain. For the policemen who work alone, the company has introduced a new agile motorcycle model named BMW F 750 GS. Fitted out with with rear-mounted boxes for medical supplies and equipment, it can double as an ambulance car in emergency.
