BMW announces new flagship EV

The German car maker BMW has issued the first teaser image of an all-new electric vehicle which is going to premiere in 2021 and become the company’s top-spec battery car to date.

The photo only shows what looks like a vague automobile silhouette, though. It could be a large hatchback, a cross coupe or maybe a classical crossover SUV like the X5.

BMW has stressed that the vehicle isn’t just an abstract design study and will therefore eventually make it into series. CEO Harald Krueger said it would take advantage of all the state-of-the-art technology the brand has at its disposal.

The upcoming flagship model goes under the provisional name of BMW iNEXT Concept. According to the reports, it is going to feature fully autonomous and semi-autonomous driving, an advanced safety system, up-to-date steering assistance and the latest iteration of infotainment system.

The engine palette of the BMW iNEXT Concept isn’t discussed this early on, but industry professionals suggest performance values between 135 and 440 hp (100 – 330 kW).

BMW is currently designing new traction batteries ranging between 60 and 120 kWh in capacity and allegedly offering between 450 and 700 km (280 – 435 mi) driving range. It could be assumed that the new car gets either of these, or maybe both.
