Car spotters have tracked down a very unusual BMW 8 Series crossover running track tests in disguise. Despite the wraps, the Bavarian flagship lends itself to a study.
Unlike the BMW X7 that uses the same technological platform, the X8 boasts a longer rear overhang, a more sloped roof, and larger taillights.
The seven-seater version will likely be gone from the lineup, and the rear sofa may yield its place to a couple of individual seats.
Rumor has it that the new 8 Series will feature a hybrid powertrain based on a 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 and an electric motor adding around 200 hp (150 kW) of its own. This would make it approximately 750 hp (559 kW) strong with 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque reaching the wheels. If true, it would be the German marque’s most powerful production car in history.
The BMW X8 will probably debut sometime in the second half of 2021.
