BMW has only ever produced one E31 M8 Coupe, calling it a prototype and sending it off to gather dust in a museum. A group of enthusiasts wanted to see what a first-gen M8 would look and handle like, so they built one with a supercharger under the hood.
The Recyclers picked a regular 1994 BMW 840i for the project. They stripped the cabin, upgraded the exhaust, suspension and brakes to track spec, and transplanted many drivetrain components from never Bavarian vehicles.
More specifically, the 8-Series received a 4.9-liter V8 from an E39 M5, which an ESS supercharger helped boost to 608 PS (600 hp / 447 kW). The prototype M8 mentioned above had twelve cylinders and 640 PS (631 hp / 470 kW) at the crank, but weighed substantially more, too. The steering wheel and six-speed manual gearbox were also taken from the E39, and a differential was borrowed from an E46 M3.
Judging by the video, the tuners were able to build a perfectly capable M8 that may have needed a set of stickier tires, but little else to be perfect.
