Not long ago, Renner unveiled a unique BMW E30 M3 armed with an M5 V10 transplant. As it turned out, the company is planning on building a few dozen of such swapped cars largely based on the 1990s-era BMWs.
There are three active projects right now: Projekt 5 dedicated to the BMW E28 saloon, Projekt 5T aimed at the M5 Touring (E34), and Projekt 8 targeting the BMW E31 coupe. One such coupe has just been completed, so let us have a look.
On the outside, the E31 looks largely stock, but pop up the hood and you will be greeted by a naturally aspirated V8 rated at 420 PS (414 hp / 309 kW). Customers who want something different may request another BMW engine, including even the V10 powering the E60 and E63 models.
Each car gets stripped down to the last bolt, properly cleaned and restored. It is then outfitted with any modern options the customer may specify. For example, the 8-Series shown here has HRE Vintage 501 wheels and slightly lowered suspension.
The Projekt 8 envisions the creation of only 10 such restomods, so pre-order early if you are interested. It is unclear how many Projekt 5 and 5T cars Renner intends to build.
