U.S.-based tuner Renner Projekts posted an online sale ad for a 1992 BMW 850i that it restored and modernized five years before. The bidding has reached $227,000 – you could buy a new Lamborghini Huracan or Porsche 911 Turbo S for that kind of money – but the company felt it was not enough and pulled out.
The project car has been rebuilt from the ground up. Its stock 5.0-liter V12 made room for a 4.9-liter V8 sourced from a 2002 BMW M5. It was allowed to stay naturally aspirated, but still received a boost to 485 PS (478 hp / 357 kW). A six-speed manual transmission and a custom exhaust system were also installed.
The suspension received H&R springs and Bilstein shock absorbers that minimized ground clearance. BMW M5 E60 donated the front brakes, while the M5 E39 supplied the rear ones. A set of 18-inch multi-piece wheels and a custom respray in a golden hue wrapped off the exterior modifications.
In turn, the interior received an overhaul involving generous amounts of leather and Alcantara. An advanced infotainment system was added along with a plaque saying ‘00’ – perhaps to indicate that the car was the first to be modified within the framework of the Projekt 8.
