The Czech division of BMW Group has presented two unique EVs united under the Starlight Edition banner. Both the i3 and the i8 feature magnificent black-and-gold exterior design – and the gold is the real thing.
The Starlight car design project was jointly implemented by such companies as Liebscher Blattgold and Toplac, and a number of Czech designers and artists. The team has succeeded in creating a unique golden lacquering and devising an innovative method for its application.
Both the all-electric car and the hybrid wear a livery consisting of four layers of 24-carate gold. The finishing layer was applied manually. The original black tone has also been applied multiple times before it was considered deep enough.
Genuine gold found its way into the interior of the vehicles as well. A thin layer adorns air vents, the central tunnel, the climate control unit and the emblem on the steering wheel.
Both vehicles will be sold at an auction.
