BMW is actively looking into building a flagship coupe that would belong to a hypothetical 9 Series and compete with the luxury-laden Maybach lineup.
Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW’s Design VP, said the company was not going to stop on the 8 Series. “My team and I are now looking at 2021 and beyond – as far out as 2030. We have a lot of plans,” he stressed.
If the BMW 9 Series coupe ever sees the daylight, it will be built on the latest 8 Series chassis and get a similar choice of engines. Industry professionals predict a 3.0L diesel unit with 320 hp (240 kW) and its higher-tier turbocharged counterpart with 530 hp (395 kW).
