BMW Motorsport upgrade BMW X2 V4 to 306 hp

It has been a while since BMW Motorsport last dealt with four-cylinder engines. Today, it finally introduced an upgrade for the turbocharged V4 engine of the BMW X2 M35i, pushing its output up to 306 hp (228 kW).

The production version of the engine is only capable of 258 hp (192 kW), or as little as 231 hp (172 kW) for transverse-mounted models. Along with the performance increase, the power kit adds a number of new parts to the drivetrain.

Of course, BMW Motorsport didn’t stop there and then. The engineer team has reworked the chassis, reducing the road clearance and retrofitting it with stiffer springs and shock absorbers. Adaptive suspension is also available at a premium.

The upgraded CUV ships with AWD, eight-speed automatic transmission, electronic front diff lock, and Launch Control. It accelerates 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds, as opposed to the 6.7s of the BMW X2 xDrive25d, once the fastest-going vehicle in the X2 family.

You can recognize BMW Motorsport’s modded BMW X2 by its silvery mirror housings, reshaped bumpers and large tailpipes.

The interior of the car offers the traditional feature set of the M range, including ergonomic sport seats, an M steering wheel and contrast-rich leather upholstery throughout.

First upgraded cars will roll off the assembly lines in November to be immediately shipped overseas. Sales in Europe won’t begin until at least spring 2019.
