The development of the BMW i4 ‘Four-Door Coupe’ is in full swing, and it has recently been announced that the electric car is going to be the best performer in the 4 Series, better even than the M4.
The EV features two engines mounted one per axle, giving it AWD and up to 530 hp (395 kW) along with 815 Nm (600 lb-ft) of torque. This may be only 20 hp (15 kW) more than the latest M4 has, but the 200+ Nm (150+ lb-ft) of torque will still come in handy. Furthermore, electric cars attain maximum torque almost instantly, whereas the S58 six-cylinder mill only hits it starting from 2,600 RPM.
The large traction battery is guaranteed to make the BMW i4 heavier than its gas-powered counterpart. Still, back when the Bavarian manufacturer revealed the I4 Concept (shown in the gallery and the video here), it said the car could sprint 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in four seconds flat. Its driving range on full charge amounted to approximately 600 kilometers (373 miles).
The BMW i4 should hit the showrooms next year.
