BMW has completely revealed its all-electric i4 liftback. Like the iX SUV, the battery-powered 4 Series makes use of a brand-new electric car platform.
Two modifications will be made available, dubbed the eDrive40 and the M50. The former is a rear-wheel-drive car powered by a single motor rated at 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW) and 430 Nm (317 lb-ft) of torque. It weighs 2,125 kg (4,685 lbs) and needs 5.7 seconds to climb to 100 km/h (62 mph) before maxing out at 190 km/h (118 mph). The battery gives it 590 kilometers (366 miles) of WLTP range.
The M50 is a dual-motor high-end model capable of 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and 795 Nm (586 lb-ft) of torque. Its curb weight amounts to 2,290 kg (5,049 lbs), enabling it to conclude the standard sprint in 3.9 seconds and hit 225 km/h (140 mph). The range is somewhat lower at 510 km (317 miles), and M suspension is included in the base spec.
The only battery available so far is rated at 83.9 kilowatt-hours nominal capacity and 80.7 kWh useful capacity.
A 12.3-inch digital dashboard and a 14.9-inch touchscreen display are the main highlights inside.
The production will begin in Munich, Germany. Sales will start in Norway in November, with Germany set to follow soon afterwards. The eDrive40 spec will start from €58,300 for German customers, and the M50 from €69,900.
