Video: Electric BMW challenges a gas-powered one to a duel

BMW is actively electrifying its product range, but it is simply too early to wave the IC engine goodbye. In the latest video by Carwow, a classic BMW M3 Competition goes up against its newfangled opposite, the i4 M50.

Powering the M3 Competition is a 3.0-liter inline-six engine with dual turbochargers, 510 PS (503 hp / 375 kW) and 649 Nm (479 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission drives the rear wheels.

The i4 M50 benefits from a dual-motor setup capable of 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW). Its battery gives it 394 km (245 miles) of range, but this circumstance is rather irrelevant here.

The participants made several attempts: a standing run, two rolling runs from 48 and 80 km/h (30 and 50 mph), and a brake test. In the end, there was no clear overall winner, suggesting that it is perhaps too early to ditch ICE cars yet.
