The M subdivision of BMW has revealed that the all-electric i4 M50 liftback sold the most units last year.
The company never provided specific figures, but added that the iX M60 also had a successful debut. In the new year, the Bavarian automaker plans to expand its M vehicle lineup and keep working on its first full-fledged M EV, which is being developed with quad electric motors for powertrain.
As for the BMW i4 M50 that led the sales last year, it comes equipped with a front-axle motor rated at 258 PS (254 hp / 190 kW) and a rear-axle one rated at 313 PS (309 hp / 230 kW). Turning on a feature called Sport Boost raises the total to 544 PS (536 hp / 400 kW) and 795 Nm (586 lb-ft) of torque. Getting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 3.9 seconds, and the top speed lies at 225 km/h (140 mph). An 83.9-kWh traction battery delivers enough juice for 510 km (317 miles) of WLTP-rated driving range.
BMW M also set a total sales record in 2022, moving 177,257 cars (+8.4% compared to the preceding year). United States, Germany and UK were the most lucrative markets.
