BMW i5 sedan shows up in a new teaser gallery and video

The BMW 3-Series and 7-Series received their zero-emission powertrains last year, and the 5-Series is set to follow their example this year. To keep our expectations high, the manufacturer has posted a bunch of pics and a video.

All the prototypes shown are disguised, but some already have production headlights and taillights installed. Although the company remains tight-lipped about the details, we already know that the BMW 5 will run on an updated platform and eDrive system. An important thing to note is that the platform will not be completely new, i.e., designed from scratch – that honor goes to the Neue Klasse architecture slated to arrive in 2025. The i5 will use CLAR underpinnings instead.

On the exterior side of things, most of the change there looks evolutionary, rather than revolutionary. Inside, the main novelty will come in the form of an iDrive 8.5 infotainment system consisting of two displays merged under a single curved pane of glass.
