BMW has shared a teaser vid dedicated to the electric version of its 5-Series saloon, the i5. The video focuses on an illuminated fake grille and provides a first glimpse of the interior. Ambient lighting and a large head unit are included.
There is an LED stripe running from the dash panel and overflowing onto the doors, as well as a big multimedia display in the middle with some UI elements in view. Overall, the sensor controls and the backlight pattern make us think of the new 7-Series, which has the same or a very similar arrangement.
In some respects, the new i5 might even surpass the flagship sedan. For one thing, it is expected to introduce BMW fans to a new version of the iDrive infotainment, complete with enhanced graphics and broader opportunities. The other recent BMWs will get the same infotainment software later on via an over-the-air update.
The part of the teaser where the exterior of the car is shown reveals the purely cosmetic ‘radiator grille’. It is not nearly as bulky as in the i7 and is backlit around the perimeter. We wouldn’t be surprised to see it styled like this on both the gas-powered 5-Series and the electric i5.
Last but not least, you can see the headlights in action with vertical DRLs framing the main units.
