The jury team of the North American Car of the Year award has published a list of semi-finalists in three main vehicle categories spanning three continents. It is worth noting that more than a half of the contenders are electrified or all-electric cars.
The short list of light passenger cars includes the BMW 5 Series and i5, Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, Subaru Impreza, Honda Accord, Ioniq 6, Toyota Crown, Toyota GR Corolla, and Toyota Prius.
The Utility Vehicle nomination lists two Chevrolets (Blazer and Equinox), Dodge Hornet, Hyundai Kona, Honda Pilot, Toyota Grand Highlander, Kia EV9, Genesis GV70, Mazda CX-90, and Volvo EX30.
The Pickup Truck list is the shortest of the three with only the GMC Canyon, Chevrolet Colorado and Silverado EV, Ford Ranger and Super Duty mentioned.
A jury of 50 members will name the winners in all three nominations on November 16, 2023. On January 4, a North American Car of the Year will be selected across all categories.
