Leaked: Camo-free BMW i5 Touring shots

The first live shots of the new wagon-bodied BMW 5-Series have leaked online, revealing many exterior details. The car seen here is an all-electric i5 model, but its gas-powered counterpart should not be too different. We will learn more in a few days or weeks when the new 5-Series gets an official introduction.

A closer look reveals smooth rear end outlines, the typical BMW shoulder line, an elaborate bumper with an imitated diffuser on it, and a modest-sized trunk lid spoiler.

A little while ago, BMW previewed a five-door i5 M car wearing an M Performance body kit. The electric flagship of the 5-Series may get the same powertrain as the M60i xDrive sedan – two motors joining efforts for 601 PS (593 hp / 442 kW). On the whole, it looks like the sedan and the wagon will have identical powertrain options.

The Bavarian company has yet to reveal the ultimate 5-Series – the M5. However, it is already official that the new M5 is coming to us in both body styles. BMW posted the first shots of the new M5 Touring wearing Christmas-themed camo in late December. The details remain to be announced, but rumors claim the new M5 will use the same hybrid system as the XM SUV, possibly with some adjustments.
