BMW had said multiple times before that it its 5 Series and 7 Series sedans would receive all-electric versions heading into the future. Yesterday, Auto Motor und Sport reported that the top specification of both would include three electric engines jointly rated at 760 PS (750 hp / 559 kW).
Specifically, sources are reporting that two motors will be mounted in the back and one at the front end. The new 5 Series will likely be called ‘i5 M’ and also be available in a part-electric form. The classic V8-based M5 should also remain on the lineup for a while.
In turn, the all-electric 7 Series will allegedly come equipped with a 120-kWh traction battery capable of much more than the current 500 kilometers (310 miles) of driving range. The sources claim that up to three all-electric i7 variants are considered right now, specifically i740, i750, and i7 M60.
We will learn more about BMW’s plans next year when these models debut on official terms.
