BMW has shared official pre-production photos of its battery-powered 7-Series sedan – likely to be called the i7 – in Arjeplog, Sweden. After the Arctic Circle tests are complete, the car will hit the spotlight and go into production next year.
The disguise prevents us from seeing minute details, but one can tell that the headlights are two-tier with the DRLs at the top and the main headlamps at the bottom.
The i7 will share the platform with the standard 7-Series saloon, and while we don’t know any details yet, it will probably get the whole BMW eDrive package of features. As for the drivetrain, it could borrow that from the iX SUV. The latter maxes out at 523 PS (516 hp / 385 kW) and offers between 425 and 630 km (264 – 391 miles) of range, but we expect the i7 to offer more range than that.
Tests in the vicinity of the North Pole enable carmakers to test their cars for stability at extremely low temperatures, handling with low surface grip, and performance of electronic aids in extreme conditions. The test crew has already reported being pleased with the electric sedan.
