BMW has prepared limited editions of its i3 EV and i8 Coupe and Convertible. The BMW i3s Edition RoadStyle will emerge in a series of 900 cars, while the BMW i8 Ultimate Sophisto Edition will consist of 200.
The urban battery car gets a fashionable Fluid Black livery with copper highlights and 20-inch black rims. The interior finish involves Dalbergia Brown leather interspersed with natural oakwood inserts. The headrests bear the name of the special series.
In turn, the BMW i8 Ultimate Sophisto Edition boasts a Sophisto Grey paint and 20-inch wheels. Inside, there is a serial number plaque, leather trim and black ceiling. The equipment list includes a Harman-Kardon audio system, satellite navigation and a HUD.
The tech stays standard in both versions. The i3s comes equipped with an electric motor rated at 184 hp (134 kW) and 270 Nm (200 lb-ft) of torque, accelerating 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 6.9 seconds. Its 42.2-kWh battery translates into approximately 270 – 285 kilometers (168 – 177 miles) of range.
The i8 packs a turbo three-cylinder engine, an electric motor and a starter-generator add-on. The system’s total output capacity amounts to 374 hp (279 kW), and the peak torque is 570 Nm (420 lb-ft). The coupe does the standard sprint in 4.4 s, and the convertible manages it in 4.6 s. Both feature 11.6-kWh batteries sufficient for 53 to 55 km (33 – 34 mi) of all-electric range.
BMW plans to start production late this year. Both the i3 and the i8 will be discontinued soon without any direct successors to fill in the gap. However, similar-specced vehicles will start emerging by 2022. This includes the compact-sized i2 and iX1, as well as a new i12 Coupe based on the Vision M Next Concept (see video).
