Hamofa Motor Sport turns a BMW i8 into a racecar

Apparently, the engineer team of the Belgian car atelier Hamofa Motor Sport found the performance of the BMW i8 hybrid too lackluster to warrant the “sport car” title. That’s why they built their own version of it, titled the BMW i8 GTR.

They began by removing both of the engines that made up the hybrid unit and replacing those with a hi-end V8 BMW Z4 engine featured in the GTE and GT3 racing series. The four-liter naturally-aspirated motor is capable of nearly 550 hp / 410 kW.

Then they asked the French engineer team of Solution F for a custom tubular frame for their BMW i8 GTR. Once finished, the new chassis reduced the weight of the vehicle to just 1,100 kilograms.

Hamofa Motor Sport made no comment on the performance or the upgrade costs.

The standard-issue BMW i8 features a hybrid drivetrain consisting of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine, an electric motor and a battery set. The entire assembly produces around 375 hp (280 kW) and accelerates the coupe 0-100 km/h (0-60 mph) in just 4.4 seconds.
