BMW reveals new iX specs and details

After showing us its newest electric SUV named iX in the past November, BMW has never announced any launch dates nor opened pre-orders. Today, it has finally supplied some technical specifications.

Apparently, the show car that debuted last fall is an xDrive50 spec. Its dual-engine powertrain produces 500 PS (493 hp / 368 kW) and gets the SUV to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under five seconds. Acceleration stops at 200 km/h (124 mph).

The batteries are rated above 100 kilowatt-hours, and the WLTP-rated driving range averages above 600 kilometers (404 miles). A 200-kW charging station grants another 120 km (75 miles) of range within ten minutes.

There is also a lower spec called iX xDrive40. This one has slightly above 300 PS (296 hp / 221 kW) and needs roughly six seconds to sprint from standstill to one hundred km/h. Its battery is smaller at approximately 70 kWh, which means a driving range above 400 km (248 miles). Charging is supported from sources rated up to 150 kW, and using one for 10 minutes gives you an extra 90 kilometers (56 miles).

Pre-orders will open in June. Prices in the United States will start from $80,000+, and actual shipments won’t be made until early 2022 due to the cars being imported from Dingolfing, Germany. Customers in Europe will get the BMW iX in late 2021, and the xDrive40 spec is expected to start from €77,300 in Germany.
