Adrian van Hooydonk, BMW Design VP, has confirmed that the company was on a course of outfitting even more models with the new ‘dual nostril’ grille design – although their shape and dimensions will differ car-to-car.
The design director explained the current perturbations in the BMW exterior design with a drive towards simple and laconic forms. According to him, all future BMWs will feature simplified bodies composed of fewer shapes and lines, but those shapes and lines that do stay must be more prominent.
Apparently, one of these ‘important’ shapes is the supersized front grille, which will enable people to recognize a BMW car from any distance. The grilles will be adapted to different model designs: some will be more vertical and others more horizontal. According to Adrian van Hooydonk, it would be perfect if drivers would immediately recognize a specific BMW model just by looking at its front grille in the rearview mirror.
We have populated our gallery with images of the all-electric i4 and iX models to give you an idea of what you can realistically expect from the Bavarian automaker in the near future. Their design will influence vehicles set for launch in 2025 and later, which the company is already developing.
