The Bavarian carmaker revealed that it isn’t planning on installing larger displays in cars for an important reason.
According to the company, giant screens in the interior can be a serious distraction to drivers, prompting them to take their eyes off the road and their hands off the steering wheel. To prevent accidents, they must not become too much of a focus in cars.
The next generation of the BMW Panoramic iDrive introduced at the CES-2025 in Las Vegas addresses this issue by replacing the digital dashboard with a HUD projector. It uses a dedicated black strip on the windshield to project a clear image visible under all lighting conditions. The car still has an infotainment display, but it’s medium-sized.
