BMW teases M2 Competition-based racecar

BMW intends to turns its 2 Series Coupe into a full-fledged racing vehicle. The premiere should happen soon, and we have some teaser pics to look at in the meantime.

The Bavarian premium carmaker already has a similar vehicle on the lineup: the M240i Racing, which packs 340 horsepower (254 kilowatts). It would appear that the company wants to up the ante with the better-performing M2 Competition.

The car will debut at the forthcoming VLN Series event, a 6-hour endurance race on the Nürburgring track. A crew made up from BMW Motorsport Junior Program members will pilot it. The race will simultaneously serve as its final pre-production test, BMW claims.

First buyers will get their M2 racecars in the second quarter of 2020. The company says it has two trim versions planned, called Clubsport and Racing, but their features and differences aren’t being discussed yet.

The standard, road-legal M2 Competition comes powered by a 410-hp (306-kW) engine and needs 4.2 seconds to get from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph).
