BMW introduces the M2 CS

The M2 Competition had been the most powerful BMW 2 Series until today, when it yielded that title to the new M2 CS.

The car comes equipped with the same engine model (S55, turbo six-cylinder) as the M2 Competition, but it produces 450 horsepower instead of 410 (336 kW instead of 306). The sprint times depend on your chosen transmission: manual goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, while 7-G DCT manages the same in 4.0 s. The top speed reaches 280 km/h (174 mph) with the Driver’s Package, and fuel efficiency once again varies based on the transmission. On average, it amounts to between 9.4 and 10.4 liters consumed per 100 kilometers traveled. For our British readers, this means between 27 and 30 MPG. For those in the USA, this corresponds to 22.6 – 25 MPG.

Even in its most basic implementation, the car features an electronic differential lock, adaptive suspension, 3-way adjustable shock absorbers, heavy-duty brakes (carbon-ceramic is a paid option), and 19-inch forged wheels finished in gold or black, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

Additional reinforcements are used to improve the structural rigidity of the car body, and replacing some parts with their carbon counterparts helps minimize weight. The latter bit includes the roof, the hood cover, the front splitter, the rear diffuser and the rear spoiler. The exhaust system sound is now valve-controlled directly from the driver’s seat.

The cabin also reveals an abundance of carbon fiber elements, including even the front seats and the center console. The trim mostly involves genuine leather and Alcantara, and the steering wheel has the useful ‘zero’ notch on it.

On the outside, the car sports an exclusive paintwork called Misano Blue.

As expected, prices sustain a major bump, with the new BMW M2 CS currently available for €95,000 in Germany – a full €33,000 above the M2 Competition and almost on par with the much larger M550i.

The production run is limited, but BMW does not provide any specific figures.
